Twin Turbo Datsun 510 - powered by 300ZX Page 3 Hood and exhaust

Previously, I had simple holes in the hood for exit air from the intercoolers, while we're at it, let's make some cool louvers instead

Know what? I want to have a better muffler, but I want to be able to bypass it for max power. So, while we have the trunk cut open for rust repair, let's do this other stuff too

Some rough mock-up to confirm it should (probably) work

Build a frame that fits the muffler

Paint the frame, weld it to the trunk

Mount the muffler

Run the bypass tubing to the muffler

Install the bypass valve.  Valve open and it becomes a straight, mufflerless exhaust. Close the valve and 100% of the exhaust goes through the muffler.

Muffler is OEM for a Chrysler Pacifica.  On Walker Muffler's website you can search by inlet-outlet size, orientation and muffler size.  I wanted 2/5in inlet outlet, and probably could have gone with a bigger muffler but..whatever.

Exhaust tips are 3in "dual wall" design. I wanted something nicer than a bare tube and OEM-looking

Also note little detail around the exhaust cutout, we gave it a little finishing touch around the openings.

Exhaust bypass valve is electric. We'll see more of that stuff later. Setup does work, it's 7dB quieter at idle
