Twin Turbo Datsun 510 - powered by 300ZX. Body shots

Image
The fender flares I bought because I like how subtle they are, but they were designed to be riveted on which isn't a look I prefer, so Mark made the necessary changes by working his usual magic.   The hood used to have just two open holes and were sized for the stock 300ZX intercoolers. We took this opportunity to make the hole bigger and add some styling louvers to them.

Here's the back side (hidden) part of the battery / auxiliary fuse panel.  The fuse panel is the power distribution point for the trunk lighting and the exhaust valve cutout. The big panel is actually sold by Techno Toy Tuning, I just reinforced it and then cut holes and ran from there. The top of the battery box actually flips open and doubles as a lid to hold the battery down in the box. Here you can see the lower tray pivot and the arms that prevent the battery tray from swinging out too far. Battery tray and aux fuse panel open

Wheels are 17in G35 wheels, rear tires are 235/40-17, fronts are 205/40-17 (that size will change later) I might actually add a little clearance here once I start regularly driving it. Juuuust enough clearance. Does not rub when driving it.

May 2025 - Red comes back to life

Image
This car - lovingly named "Red" a long time ago not because it was red (it was more tomato-soup colored), but I mused that when I was next to some loud-but-slow car, my car would quietly say "I'm going to kick you ass" in the same tone as Red from "That 70's Show" Powered by a twin-turbo V6 from a '90's 300ZX, it generally has enough scoot to beat said slow cars. Purchased in 1995, it's evolution to the current state has been a very slow, long slog. This blog with cover much of this journey. May 2025 - finally assembled enough to make a (very) short trip to a 5/10 day event Drone shot with everything else black and white - really brings the color out.  Another view at the event

Image
While I have gone without a spare tire forever, I decided I wanted to remedy that. Since the exhaust now took up the space where the spare tire well had been, we came up with a plan - mount it vertically! This presented some challenges of its own.  As I am running a 300ZX spare tire, the evaporator/separator (the fuel tank vents to it) had to be modified - cut down by about 1/3. Then Mark determined buying a fender for a trailer would save him some fabrication time. Came out great!
